Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is an exciting development in weight loss research. HCG is an amazing tool that allows you to lose weight, preserve muscle, and burn fat –without feeling hungry or accelerating your appetite.

What is HCG?

HCG is actually a hormone that the body naturally produces that has an important role in body fat metabolism and during pregnancy. Back in primitive times, our ancestors required HCG to mobilize fat stores during periods when food was scare. As you know, when you wanted a meal 20,000 years ago you had to hunt or forage for it.

 

In fact, our caveman ancestors often had to follow an animal for upwards of 20 miles for a fruitful hunt. HCG helped cavemen mobilize their fat stores during their journey so they can be used for energy.

 

HCG also has a crucial function during pregnancy, as noted by the rapid increase of circulating HCG levels found in pregnant women. In fact, it’s the HCG itself that triggers a positive pregnancy test. During pregnancy, HCG coordinates immunity, helps the body produce progesterone, and aids in cell growth.

How Can HCG Help Me Lose Weight?

HCG works with your body to make weight loss easier than you ever thought possible. Here’s how:

 

Appetite: Research published in the British Medical Journal, The Lancet, found that HCG was strongly correlated with morning sickness. The HCG diet won’t make you sick, but it will interact with your body to help curb appetite –even as you lose weight.

 

As you probably already know, when you go on a typical diet, your appetite becomes ravenous. HCG is able to block many of the pathways that make you hungry, making your weight loss journey a more pleasant one.

 

Metabolism: Most calorie restricting diets instantly shift your body into “starvation mode”. Because our bodies are designed for a primitive “caveman” environment, when food is scarce, your body does whatever it can to keep its weight stable. Why don’t pregnant women lose weight if they have large amounts of HCG circulating on their bodies?

HCG’s main role is to help the body burn off stored fat so it can be used for energy. However, for HCG to become active there has to be a sharp decrease in calories and fat coming in. For women that are pregnant and don’t yet know it, HCG serves as a safety net –allowing energy to be released for the growing fetus.

 

However, most women today have more than enough food around and easily gain the weight that they need without ever needing HCG.

 

When we use HCG for weight loss, we also make sure that calories are restricted using a very low calorie diet (VLCD). This way, the body shifts into a metabolic state where HCG can mobilize and burn off excess fat.

Will the low calorie diet cause my metabolism to slow down?

Normally, yes. When people go on a low calorie diet, the body goes into starvation mode and metabolism crawls to a stand still.

 

That’s the beauty of HCG. When HCG is combined with a low calorie diet, it causes fat stores to become mobilized and burned off for energy, while your metabolism continues to run normally.

If I eat a very low calorie diet without HCG, will I lose the same amount of weight?

Unfortunately, no. If you cut calories without HCG, starvation mode will set in –forcing your body to hold onto the fat it has on board by shutting down metabolism. On the other hand, when a low calorie diet is combined with HCG, you can expect to see much more dramatic weight loss than if you used a low calorie diet alone.

Why are some people calling HCG the “weight loss cure”?

Because it ends the cycle of dead-end diets. Unlike most diets, which further entrench starvation mode, HCG reprograms your body to get back to its healthy weight. Although most diets can boast of short-term results, only the HCG diet gives results that actually last. 

 

This is important as clinical research shows that the vast majority of people who diet without HCG regain their original weight –and then some. This phenomenon doesn’t happen when people lose weight with HCG. In this way, HCG doesn’t just treat weight loss, but actually cures it.

How much weight should I expect to lose on the HCG diet program?

It’s important to note that everyone is different and individual results will vary.
Women tend to lose 1.2 lb up to 1lb. per day while men may lose 1 lb up to 1.5 lbs per day. Over the course of a typical 5-6 week program, this results in 18-35 lbs. of weight lost.

 

The best part is, the vast majority of the weight that’s lost is fat –not water or lean body mass including muscle and bone.

Does the weight continue to fly off after 1 month?

For most, they’ll see the majority of their weight loss soon after starting the program. After about 3 weeks, weight loss slows, but doesn’t stop. Weight continues to melt away, although not as rapidly as it did at the beginning of the program.

Can men use the HCG Diet program?

Absolutely! Although HCG is found in pregnant women, HCG is not a sex hormone. In fact, it’s precursor to testosterone. Man or women, HCG acts the same way –burning away fat stores and keeping the body out of starvation mode.

Some men who have hormone-related disorders like prostate cancer need to be wary of using HCG. Otherwise, it’s extremely well tolerated by both sexes.

What blood work is needed before starting the HCG diet program and why?

This is one of the steps we take that separates our program from the rest.

For many who struggle with weight loss, one factor that tends to stymie progress is insulin resistance. Even if you don’t have full-blown diabetes, you can still have significant insulin resistance.

 

In a nutshell, insulin resistance makes it nearly impossible for your body to burn fat and maintains any weight loss progress. Most diets don’t touch insulin resistance, and that’s why they fail. How is my weight loss measured to show that body fat is targeted and not muscle?

Boca Health uses an In Body 520 special scale that utilizes a technology called bioelectrical impedance, abbreviated BIA. BIA works by sending an extremely small electrical current through the body that determines your ratio of fat to lean body mass, known as body composition.

 

By looking at both your weight loss and your changes in body composition, you can see for yourself that you’re losing tremendous amount of fat, while keeping critical lean body mass including muscle and bone on board.

Do I need to take any supplements, like protein powder?

We do recommend a few supplements to accelerate your progress and boost overall health and wellness.

 

One of the most important supplements we recommend is protein powder, made from pure egg whites.

Why do I need extra protein?

Although protein is always important, it becomes even more important during a low calorie diet.

 

By taking another trip back in time, we can see why protein is so important in the human body. Thousands of years ago, there were no such things as grains, sweets, or processed meals. In other words, carbohydrates were scarce. If you were lucky enough to come across some carbohydrates, say in the form of a vacated beehive, your body went to great lengths to store every gram of carbohydrates in the form of fat. On the other hand, the body has no readily available way to store protein, so it never gets stored as fat even if eaten in high amounts.

 

As you know, it’s important that the weight you lose is primarily made up of fat, not muscle. Studies show that additional protein intake helps the body preserve muscle during weight loss. Also, a higher ratio of protein to carbohydrate intake naturally stimulates metabolism and prevents fat storage.

Are there any side effects I should be worried about?

Fortunately, side effects from an HCG diet are rare. Some people may experience headaches, restlessness, and tender breast tissue. Our program screens patients through a thorough blood chemistry evaluation before beginning the program to ensure a safe experience. Also, each patient is followed closely by our medical team to greatly reduce the likelihood of side effects.

WHAT IS THE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM?

The maintenance program is a diet strategy that makes sure that you continue to have success even after the HCG program ends. For about three weeks after completing the program, you’ll follow a carbohydrate restricted diet. After this three-week period, you can go back to eating normally, and you will continue be able to reintroduce sugar and starch gradually into your diet.

 

Also, you’ll be weighing yourself every morning to monitor your progress. Although slight fluctuations in weight are normal, if you can keep your weight within 2 pounds you achieved on the last day of the program, then you can continue with your current diet.

 

However, if you gain more than 2 pounds, you should skip your next 2 meals, drink lots of fluid, and have a protein only dinner. This should get you back on track.
